Description

ALONE_ALT indicates whether or not the respondent was alone. ALONE_ALT is constructed using data from the variables ALONE, SPPART, CHILD and (OAD). ALONE_ALT primarily reports data contained in ALONE, but if the respondent reported that were alone in ALONE, but also reported the presence of their spouse SPPART, child CHILD or other adult OAD during the activity, ALONE_ALT reports that the diarist was not alone during the activity.

ALONE_ALT is only available if you select a hierarchical extract. If you request a hierarchical extract and plan to construct time use variables in your statistics package, this variable may be useful to you. Alternatively, you may construct a time use variable as part of this system.
